Leegte is ook ruimte (Emptiness is space as well) (working title) is an ongoing research project about the interaction between growth and loss, with a main focus on the feeling of grief that to me is inevitably connected to growing. This project started when I was a teenager; when I was going to a school that was located on a construction site and at the same time had to deal with grief for the first time in my life. It stems from my personal fear of change and (material) loss and my fascination for the ever changing landscape of the city.
While Emptiness is space as well has no fixed endpoint and will likely continue evolving for a long time, it will hopefully lead – in the coming months or years – to a photo series, a video work/installation, or perhaps a publication.
This research project is closely connected with the broader research and creative process for Number 5 (working title), a feature film about a group of teenagers confronting grief.
